Metalsmith Basics is designed for jewelry artists who have little or no prior metals experience.   Learn to saw your own custom metal shapes,  file , pierce,  texture,  stamp, finish,  patina  and use cold connections to combine metals.  Time permitting, students will be introduced to the fine art of soldering with a demo and discussion .   This is a techniques class providing time and practice to learn many different hand tool skills essential to metalsmithing.        Since this is a techniques workshop, some students do not complete a project during class time .    MAXIMUM 4 students per class.

This class qualifies students to do open studio and rent bench space.        Students interested in more hands on soldering experience can take Soldering 101 ,  then Soldering Boot Camp.

Students should bring safety glasses (or purchase from the studio $5),  wear closed toe shoes,  not sandals.

Prerequisite:  none,  this is beginner level but those with jewelry design experience will advance their skill level and introduce options to their designs

  1. I guess I need a basic soldering class. I know what to do and have all the tools to solder but I am not proficient in the least. Do you have a basic soldering course coming up? I really would like to sign up ASAP thank you

    • Hello Laura,
We can do a private soldering class tomorrow afternoon. Maya has a class at 5, so how is 1:00?
I still have to confirm with Maya, too.
Can you send your response via text? It will be quicker. 585.737.5858

  2. Dear Studio 34,

I would like to learn how to make southwest jewelry:
    Bolos, rings & cuffs.
From Sterling Silver, turquoise & other gem stones.

Looked into a local college, was floored by the amount.

I was told to get in touch with you.

I know that I will have my work cut out for me.

Thank you for your time and consideration

    Robert
