Metalsmith Basics is designed for jewelry artists who have little or no prior metals experience. Learn to saw your own custom metal shapes, file , pierce, texture, stamp, finish, patina and use cold connections to combine metals. Time permitting, students will be introduced to the fine art of soldering with a demo and discussion . This is a techniques class providing time and practice to learn many different hand tool skills essential to metalsmithing. Since this is a techniques workshop, some students do not complete a project during class time . MAXIMUM 4 students per class.
This class qualifies students to do open studio and rent bench space. Students interested in more hands on soldering experience can take Soldering 101 , then Soldering Boot Camp.
Students should bring safety glasses (or purchase from the studio $5), wear closed toe shoes, not sandals.
Prerequisite: none, this is beginner level but those with jewelry design experience will advance their skill level and introduce options to their designs
